The Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho’s next movie, starring Robert Pattinson, is “Mickey 17,” and it will come out in 2024. The Warner Bros. movie is being made right now, and it will come out on March 29, 2024.
The sci-fi story is based on Edward Ashton’s novel, which publisher St. Martin Press calls a high-concept cerebral thriller in the style of “The Martian” and “Dark Matter.” Pattinson will play an “expendable” worker on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Nifheim who refuses to let his clone take his place.
Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo are also in the cast, along with Robert Pattinson. We don’t know much about the plot of the movie, and it’s not clear how closely Bong plans to stick to the book. The book by Ashton came out in February 2022.
Bong will write and direct the next movie and produce it through his company, Offscreen. Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B, as well as Dooho Choi of Kate Street Pictures, are also producers. Peter Dodd will be in charge of the project for Warner Bros.
“Mickey 7” is Bong’s first movie since “Parasite,” which was the most successful South Korean movie ever and the first movie not in English to win the Oscar for best picture. The strange black comedy was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning three of them: original screenplay, director, and international feature. Bong was known for movies like “Snowpiercer,” “The Host,” “Okja,” and “Barking Dogs Never Bite” before “Parasite” became a big hit.
